I am not an IT tech. I have help support a network that because of the company rules, cannot touch the internet for Mcafee or any other updates. So I update each PC using the SDAT.exe supplied by Mcafee. I read that a local repository could be established on a LAN and the other PC's could update from there. So this would save me a lot of time if I only had to update the local repository. What I would like to do is create a local repository and have all the other PC's (100) point to the local repository and update from there... This is where I need some advice. How do I create a local repository? What update files go into it? And How do I configure PC's to update from it? I have searched the WEB and Mcafees FAQ and Knowledge base sites to no avail. Thank you for any advice and help you can offer.

Hi,

you can setup an ePO server for your clients. use the Global Update option to update all clients when checking in a package (the engine/ Dat / SuperDAT file) you download from mcafee manually to update your clients instantly at checkin.

Hi 1NewBee

BramB suggestion is true but still complex.

What u need to do is set up a Mirror Task in VirusScan. The machine on which you create the mirror task will need access to the internet.

The machine will download updates from the internet and copy (mirror) these updates to a folder of your choice. You will need to share this folder so that all 100 PC's can browse this folder on the network.

You will then need to configure each machine to update from this UNC share path. This is done is VirusScan GUI in Tools > Edit AutoUpdate Repository list

Add new UNC repository and you just need to follow the wizard.

If you have any difficulty, please read the product documentation/guide and search for Mirror Task / Updates

I agree that ePO is a bit overkill but it is far more robust than a MirrorTask is. we used mirrortasks in the past (older versions of VSE that is) but they kept failing very often due to various minor issues on network connectivity and security.

I have a very similar situation. NewBee were you able to set this up and update successfully? Can I copy the contents of the mirror location to a disk to then install on an isolated (No internet connection)LAN?
