I need to move a user to a new PC. He uses Visio. I have an upgrade for Visio for him to use on his new PC. He had version 2000. We can't locate the original media for the versio 2000 install. We have v5(97/98) but that is imcompatible with Windows XP. Is there a way to make an installation CD from the program on his PC, with enough info to allow the installation of the upgrade to succeed?

To the question asked, don't believe so, no.

You *may* be able to put in your v5 disks when prompted upon installing the new version. The other route that *might* work is copying the old files to the same folders on the new PC. I don't know if the upgrade checks for reg keys or certain files, though, and those files may be in a different directory (like Win32).

The other option you may have is to purchase a media CD from a MS vendor for an older version... or on eBay.

The v5 was not compatible with XPPro. I did create identical folders on the new machine as the old and the installation completed. Thank you.

Cool, glad you got it sorted! For the record, what I meant with v5 was not to install it. Just keep the disks hanging around, and start the install using the upgrade copy. Usually, although I don't know with Visio, you'd get prompted to supply them because it couldn't find a suitable version on your PC. Slip the disk in the drive, and it figures it out.

Doesn't matter now, but may be a help in future. :)

Yeah, I understood that, I didn't try to intall it, I was using it for the prompt for media since the older version wasn't on the new machine. Again, thanks for your help.
