create formulas w/ in groups

Are there any info (books, etc) that have common methods (or formulas) to create (data) formulas for data that is either in groups or based on group formulas?

Ex - I have a rpt that I prompt for = data range.

However, I have GH data that need to summarize not only prompted date data but maybe previous (or other)date ranges. I am getting around this by actually infput data into new dbase tbls.. However, you can all see why this isn't the best thing.

Using CR 10.0
Access 2K dbase

Example:

Main Rpt is filetered by date (b/t 3/27/04 and 4/30/04).
GH 1 :
"Summary" results (count of sales maybe) for date listed above.

** I need additional "summary" results that fall outside of dates listed above.

This is where I am having problems producing formulas that should be based on "details" that fall outside of dates (3/27/04 and 4/30/04).
I need to provide "summary" info (w/ in GH1) for 'custimized' dates?
