Hello,

Would someone mind posting a database creation script for Oracle 8.17 that you use regularly in a production environment?

I am trying to get up to speed and get real world sense of the base requirements as opposed to book theory.

Any comments on how you evolved to using this script would be great.

Thanks very much for your time,

Hi, Michael

Did you get the script?
Could you send me a copy?

Thank you very much.

It probably doesn't exist as each database creation should be different and distinct.

Michael,

I agree with Terry, that "each database creation should be different and distinct," but given that, I HIGHLY recommend that you develop your own "boilerplate" database build script, which you then tailor with the slight changes that may be necessary for each build.

I have such boilerplate (one for each dissimilar operating system such as one for Windows, one for Unix, et cetera). I can share a sample boilerplate with you...you choose either Windows or Unix...and let me know. You should, however, be familiar enough with the code to know what modifications are appropriate for your environment.

(I must leave for an appointment in a couple of hours, so, depending upon your response and my availability, I'll get it to you as soon as I can.)

Hi muf, you're really playing Santa's role today

Thanks all for your comments - they were very useful.

Thanks,

You could run dbassist and let that create a basic script for you.

Santa - I'd appreciate a copy of your boilerplate script for Unix if possible, please. Can you email it to kencunningham1957@yahoo.co.uk . Might I also suggest it be added as a FAQ here. Cheers and best (if belated) New Year wishes.
