I was wondering if anyone has created an Access database for reporting only? I'm not too sure how to go about it and to keep it simple.

The Access database will have linked tables to pull the data from. The users will only need a button or a form to pull the report they wish to preview and print. This is the only function required for the users and the database will be stored on an network.
Someone mentioned to me something about Runtime?

And with the current link that I have tested requires a password to access the data. Is there a way I can bypass that in the Access database that I wish to create?

I'm using Access 2000 ver 9.0 Sr-1

forget about runtime, it's only for distributing access front ends to computers without access...

I believe when you link the tables across, there's a option of saving the password, if you click on that, then you'd only need to put in the password on the initial linking of the tables.

however if this is a reporting database, you might want to consider importing the data directly, and de-normalising it if necessary to make it easier to report from. You can have all this done within a function which can be activated upon database start...

Hi Crowley16,

Thanks for the tidbits. FE/BE wouldn't be efficient for this situation.

With your second option:

"you might want to consider importing the data directly, and de-normalising it if necessary to make it easier to report from. You can have all this done within a function which can be activated upon database start..."

I'm not sure how this will work as the client is copying the tables once everyday to a server for power users like myself.
