Hi i'm a software application developer (business modules), but i've been assigned the task of overseeing a project which is supposed to be an animated production, like a movie.

Is AfterEffects a good tool to use? I've been looking at products such as SoftImage XSI, but i'm not sure. Could someone help me make the decision. Board meeting in a little while.

Thanks.

Delton Phillips.

wether AE is appropriate is dependant on
what you want your finished product to be
the amount of time you have to learn the product
If by animation you mean cartoon like, no not AE, rather AE is a compostiting tool allowing you to import element and animate them over time.
The Adobe site has some excellant samples of what peole are doing with AE.

As far as the 3d animating software goes, soft image is a great tool, unfortunately the learning curve is VERY difficult. (Not to mention costly) 3D Studio Max is another incredible tool...but the same applies. I spent over a year in classes just to learn the tools...Maya on the other hand is quite a bit easier to jump in to. Here is the url-
Good luck!
