It seems like I get one problem solved and another is there to take its place. Some of my users are experiencing problems when opening Word documents using Word XP.

They are receiving the following message when opening some documents, "Create Adobe PDF monitor cannot be found. Please reinstall Create Adobe PDF." If they click OK, they are able to continue normally.

Any suggestions as to what is causing this?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

It sounds like an Adobe product, maybe Acrobat, has written a macro to Word that activates on startup, and now something has changed in the Adobe application setup and the macro can't find the files it's looking for, I'm still looking for a way to disable the macros, but if you press Alt+F11 then view "project explorer" you can confirm if any Adobe macros appear in the explorer window. ....stay tuned

I just checked and the first project listed is AutoOpenPDF(PDFWriter 97). When I try to do anything with the project, I am told the project is locked. Since the project is locked, I cannot delete that project.

I have also checked to see if any Adobe Products are installed. The only product I found was Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0.

I will be looking at the newer version the Reader later today to see if the updated version will solve this problem.

Thanks for your help and if you have any additional suggestions, they are greatly appreciated.

If I start Word XP as the Administrator, I do not receive the message. But, if I start word as someone with just user privileges, I receive the message.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jay

Look in C:\program files\microsoft office\office\startup for
the file "PDFwriter97.dot.

DELETE IT

Word now works fine but don't ask whete the .dot came from in the first place

Thanks for putting me on the right track. In Office XP, the PDFwrite97.dot file is in the \program files\microsoft office\office10\startup as well.

Thanks again for solving this problem.

Using Windows 2000, I had the same problem with MS Word - after I deleted the file, still had the problem. Seached for a second copy and found it in Documents and Settings folder. Deleted it, problem solved.

THANK YOU so much for this info, This particluar problem has been driving me bug-eyed crazy for about a month. I'm just a poor fumbler (translate home user/pest) but I still want my system not to give me error messages. BTW, I did check the printers folder whilst attempting to solve this one, and that darn pdf writer was actually in there as an installed printer. However, deleting it had no effect on the error message.

Thanks again to all.

Adobe PDFWriter 5.05 works OK with windows xp and Microsoft office 2000 or viseo 2000. However, with office xp 2002 or viseo 2002 pdfwriter garbles letters in drawing made with viseo and printed from viseo to pdfwriter or word xp documents with viseo drawings pasted therein and printed to pdf writer. Luckily I have two systems and the office/viseo 2000/pdfwriter system works OK. Very frustrating.

thanks in advance!
