I've been handed the task of supporting a BCM 50 phone system. I have a decent understanding of managing the basics, but I'm curious on how to setup a hunt group.

What I've been asked to do is to create an extension (1170) on the system that immediately rings a hunt group. I'm not sure how to do this. 1170 is not a physical extension.

Can someone point me to a step by step guide on how to do this?

Thanks.

Hunt Groups are made in the Element Manager which is a Java based software program. Voicemail and other apps are managed through the web interface.

Have you used that Element manager software before? Because that is where you start.

I do use the element manager. I've found the Hunt Group settings, and created a test group. I forwarded a physical extension to the hunt group number, and it rang.

I'm not sure how to create an extension number (non-physical) and have it immediately ring the hunt group.

Thanks.

So each hunt group has an extension number which is also called a DN number.

If you look in the "Grid" of hunt groups you will see a column called DN. That is where you assign the extension number to the hunt group. In other words, the DN is the Hunt Group's extension #. If you click into the DN field for your hunt group, you can type in the extension # you want.

Is that what you are going for?

That sounds like what I'm trying to set up. I want users to be able to call x1170 and it ring to all the phones in the IT department.

I opened Hunt Groups and went to the one I configured. I see the DN set as 2476, but it will not let me change it.

Yep. That's where I'm double clicking, but it will not let me edit it. I've tried others in the list, and I cannot edit those either.

Are you signed in as nnadmin or otherwise have enough admin rights?

Can you change the other settings?

What version of BCM are you on? (1,2,3,4,5 or 6)?

You can try this.

Go to the DN setting, scroll down until you find DN #2476 and change it to 1170.

Your suggestion worked. I was able to change the number under Dialing Plan/DNs. I now have a functioning hunt group.

Thanks!!

One quick question: Is there a way to identify the call is coming from the hunt group on the receiving extensions?

You can set a distinct ring pattern for that hunt group. When a call to the hunt group is made, all the member phones will ring distinctly.

That setting is on the Hunt Group grid towards the right side.
