Hi

Ive got an Live Linux ISO ; I want to add some files to the ISO and then burn it. I can mount it and then add the files but how do I make a bootable disc with k3b??

Thanks

If you've got a live ISO already you should be able to either mount the ISO using the loop device, e.g., mount -t iso9660 -o loop <iso filename> <mount point>, or you could follow the general directions for creating a KNOPPIX distro (search KNOPPIX remaster). Since you don't alter the ISO image, except the file table, you can add and delete files without affecting its ability to boot.

Not sure about other Live CDs, but KNOPPIX uses a cloop (compressed loop) device rather than the standard loop device. But the remaster instructions demonstrate how to pull the existing OS off of the ISO, chroot to it, add/remove software and build a new ISO.

Ive checked out the remastering knoppix; very informative. Ive downloaded K5 now; but I think K3 will do just fine. Have you remastered a knoppix cd before?? if so with which packages and what "category" is it in.

I've remastered several times, but I was never adding "packages." I added scripts, executables and data that was necessary for specific projects. I have removed packages to make it all fit back onto a single CD. Once you are in the chroot'd environment, you can use apt-get to install or remove packages, just like any other Debian distro.
