Hi
I have been using Photoshop 7 for a couple of months now, on Saturday Photoshop 7 ran through the usually start up screen but crashed out when it reached the loading brushes stage. This continued every time I started photoshop.I re-installed, removed all common files and even restored an earlier clean XP restore point. No matter what I try I cannot get past the loading bruches phase as photoshop just closes. Any Ideas?

Try resetting your preferences. When launching photoshop, hold down ctrl-alt-shift.

Many many thanks, never knew about that worked, it worked a treat.

I had the same problem in Windows 2000 I renamed a file named "Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Prefs.psp" located in "c:\Documents and Settings\%user name%\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\7.0\" with a new file extension so photoshop did not recognize the file when it loaded and it asked me again for the color settings and it works great.

C O R R E C T I O N ! ! TO THE ABOVE PATH:
C:\Documents and Settings\"%user name%"\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\7.0\Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Settings\

samtt,

What's the point of changing the extension, that's just the same as it not being there, so why not just delete it instead of re-naming the extension. Photoshop will create a new one if it can't find the prefs file so now you will have 2 files (1 being the new file and the other being useless and taking up space).

SPYDERIX,

Just that you feel comfortable/safe not deleting the file.
Technically you are right.

You can delete it afterwards too.
