I've just installed a dsl modem, which works while in aol but crashes when I go to the web. IE crashes if used without AOL also. The mouse freezes and though I can C-A-D out of IE the mouse remaing frozen until I reboot the whole system. I have reinstalled Win 98SE. There appear to be no IRQ conflicts. The dsl company says it's not thier problem as the modem connects (which it does). AOL is baffled. Any ideas? TIA

Funny thing about AOL, once you install it, it replaces all your network setting suited to work for AOL only, also AOL's browser is the equivilient to a very old IE version, so it's not upto par to run most of the scripting now days.

about the network setting, this is very sentative since you are using a broadband connection and not a dialup, I had AOL 6 installed, it immediatly wiped out my cable modem setting, and put in it's own.

this could contribute to the problem, try updating to IE 5.5 if you had not done so already, or re-run IE's connection wizzard

See this article:

In my personal experience, AOL 5.0 and up is the virtual kiss of death for windows.

As previously stated, when you install AOheL 5.0 or above, critical Windoze files are replaced. Microsoft really doesn't go into too much depth on this subject.

You can follow Microsoft's instructions, but when a friend of mine did this it didn't help.
