While in the middle of differential backups, recently Arcserve has started to occasionaly hang. Nothing I do seems to be able to stop or reset the job without rebooting.

Arcserve 6 Windows NT4 server SP5

Any ideas how to avoid the rebooting?

Thanks in advance.
Very frustrated.

If you have installed the NT Server Resource Kit on this server, open a DOS prompt. Type in 'tlist'...this will give you the task list. Find an exe called 'ASRUNJOB'...thats your hung backup job. You will see next to the exe name a 3-digit number...this is you PID. At the DOS prompt, type 'KILL <PID#>'. In other words, say the PID for ASRUNJOB is 455. You would type in 'KILL 455' This will kill the job. However, get back to your ARCserve manager screen and watch the job status screen. The job you just killed might try to restart. At that point you should be able to stop the job normally in ARCserve.
I hope that helps,
