CR7 activex wrong default printer

We are still using CR7 on several sites. Just moved our app from one server (W2000) to another server (W2003) and have found the users printing from the activex smart viewer are presented with their list of printers but their default printer is not the one the viewer selects.

I have read all sorts of forum and kb articles about it and can't see anything we are doing wrong. Reports were all designed by me. The print setup for each report has the 'no printer' box unchecked and the 'default properties' box unchecked.

We have a few clients where no problem exists, but on this particular server, and also on a workmates development pc, we see this wrong printer selection. It is rather annoying for user to constantly select correct printer and the users default printer work in every other program and app on their pc, just not the smart viewer.

Anything I can try?

If I recall correctly,with the 'no printer' UNchecked the report will attempt to use the printer with which it was designed as the default ( or the default printer on the server) - check that box and it should then use the Client's default printer..

You are correct but that is not really much help in my case. Only way that report saves info like page size and orientation is to untick both boxes. That is the preferred way. Report was designed on my pc, where default printer is an Epson photo 810. Now the activex viewer is designed to first look to see if client has that printer installed, otherwise it should pick the users default printer. This has worked for nearly 5 years on various pcs and servers and lots of clients.

Now for some reason this new server is doing things differently and also my workmates home pc does the same.

Even if I VPN to clients server and run our app over the connection (it's lots of reports run via coldfusion), using the activex smart viewer, it all looks ok except when I goto print, it selects my printer called 'microsoft office document image writer'. This is not my default printer nor the printer report was designed on!

Other users report similar problems where a random printer is selected.

What I have noticed though that the default printer on the webserver is also the ms image writer.

I'm wondering if the viewer is doing some stupid matiching between server default printer and clients list of printers. It shouldn't do, but CR7 is rather old and probably some some stupid things.

I'll have a play tonight and report back with my findings.
