CR XI group sort by Last Name 1

I have three groups, first by assignment of the employee. Second by 'Last Name', and third by a log number assigned to the employee. Sorting group of 'Last Name' ascending, seperates alpha and the records by quantity of assigned logs.
i.e.

General Services
Jones
12345
12346

Adams
12476

Bell
12365

I just want all employees by assignment to be in alpha order. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Insert a maximum on the name at the assignment group level and then go to report->group sort and use the maximum to sort the records ascending (I think).
