CR Charts in Black and White 1

My customer just requested that I make all my newly minted charts easily readble when printed on a B&W printer. I find nothing in the documentation that speaks to such acnient technology. Any ideas?

right click on the chart and open the chart expert...
go to the OPTIONS tab... on the top left there is an option to make the chart color or black and white. When you choose black and white, crystal takes care of differentiating the items by shading and fill effects... ShannonLea

Hmm.. I don't find an options tab on the Chart Expert. Is this version 9 addition?

Uncheck the box "Automatically set chart options" and the options tab will appear.

there are 5 tabs, the options tab is the 4th one...

If you mean.. "Can the user specify whether to make the report B&W or Color when they open the report" the answer is probably no (probably only because I am not 100% sure that you couldn't set it in code.. just haven't seen it done). However.. there is an easy way to make them think they can (which is all that really matters).

Duplicate your chart and place in two separate sections. Make one be B&W and the other color. Create a parameter with two choices Black and white or color... Suppress the appropriate sections based on their choice so they will only "see" one chart.

Hi all,
I just had to create a bunch of B/W bar charts and found that only the first 17 bars will appear in some sort of Black/white/(b/w) pattern and from bar 18 on will appear in color (on screen), they print in shades of B/W/Grey. If someone has a work around other than manually selecting each bar and applying a B/W/Pattern to it, I'd appreciate it. Manually wouldn't work for me, since I never have any idea of how many bars I will need for each customer.

Is there a way to add patterns to black and white charts, because it's sometimes hard to differentiate between shades of gray, especially if there is a legend involved.

i know there is a way you can use clipart... maybe you could find some B&W patterned clipart to use... <?>

(i am not sure if this will help or not; but it was the first thing i thought of...)

Hi Michael,
If you go into chart analzyer (depending upon the CR version you're using), select a specific bar, right click and choose Format Chart, Selected Item. Here you can set a pattern, gradient, texture or display a picture within the bar.
