Hi,

I've read in a couple of places that you can convert reports designed in CR 10 to CR 9 format and that these versions are interchangeable. I just can't figure out how this is done. How can I change my CR 10 reports to CR9? I'm using Crystal Reports 10 Developer Edition.

Thanks,
yodaa

Good news! You don't need to do a thing. Crystal 10 rpt files can simply run in Crystal 9.

Ido,

I'll use the report in a system that will generate the report based on some filter. The thing is that I can't alter the system to read a CR 10 report. I need to convert a report designed in CR 10 to CR 9 version so my system can read the report. Kind of like a "Save as..." to the 9 format.

Is it possible to do so or do I need to invest money that I don't have in purchasing a license for CR 9.

Thanks,

Again, you don't need to do a thing. A Crystal 10 report can be used by Crystal 9 as is.

Ido,

It doen't work with using a CR 10 report as is in my system. I checked the properties of the report and it has a version tag with the value 10. I think that's why my system rejects this report.

I'm beginning to think that the only way I can get a report in version 9 is to open it in CR 9 and then save it. Is there no other way of saving a 10 as a 9?

Thanks,
yodaa

Try and provide more information i.e.

how are you trying to view the report (what is your sytem)?
post any error messages you get

CR10 reports can be viewed and modified using the CR9 crystal designer and RDC dll's, so you need to provide more information about your setup.

We have purchased a bug tracking system (DevTrack) where you can specify a number of custom made reports. DevTrack supported only version 8 of CR up til a month ago, now they support reports with a version up to 9, thanks God for that.
We have two licenses for CR, one is for CR 8 to support our needs in the system and the other is CR 10 Enterprise which we use for scheduling of reports etc. We want to retire our CR 8 license and use only CR 10. My dilemma is that DevTrack can't read CR 10 reports, I've tried it and it gives me an error "Unable to load report". There's no money to buy a CR 9 version when we have CR 10. So, is it possible like in MS Word to save a report in CR 10 into CR 9 report without purchasing CR 9.

Thanks

The direct answer to your question is NO you can't get version 10 to save reports as version 9, simply because there shouldn't be any need to.

The problem lies with your bug tracking software and as such I would report it ot the manufacturer of the software, but in the meantime I guess you are stuck with using CR8.

Gary,

Thank you very much for clearing that out, atleast now I know how to go forward.

Thanks,

I don't think there's any bug here. It sounds like you are trying to open a Crystal 10 report in a "system" that supports only Crystal 8.5 (not Crystal 9 as you keep insisting).

Ido,

The system supports CR 9 reports according to the vendor. That's why it's so frustrating when I can't view a CR 9/10 report. This is why I also want to convert to 9, to make sure that the sys really does support CR 9.

Thanks,
yodaa

Contact the vendor and make sure your version of the "system" indeed supports 9. You may need to update to a later version of the "system".
