hi i'm using win xp pro on a system using an athlon 1800xp cpu.

i'd like to upgrade just the cpu to an athlon 2200xp chip, leaving everything else intact (motherboard, bios, cards, etc...)

would i have to re-activate win xp just by swapping the cpu?

Hello,
From my understanding XP is very picky in this area. It does look at your hardware configuration & what's there. It may not have a problem since the processor is the same type? But it might not. In fact, you might have to re-install the operating system. You could try it & if it doesn't work I think you could just put the old processor back in. I had an OS installed on a system once & I moved that hard drive onto a different system & 'knew' right as soon as I turned on the machine & the OS would not work. That was partially because it was proprietary to one manufacturer, but the principle is still there of how much the OS checks.

Anyway hope that helps, at least some,

Howdy:

A simple CPU swap won't be emough for you to require XP to be re-activated..

CPU, motherboard and videocard..YES..CPU only, no chance !!
