CPU sticks at 40% users have very bad responses

Netware 5 SP2a /Pentium 800Mhz 2Gb RAM
(Compaq Proliant 360 on a SAN)
Portal stays Green

Server run's fine but suddenly users get very bad
responses cpu sticks at 40%. (from 1 min to 20 mins)

Have cleared down purged files.
Server has been tuned using various TID's
Others servers also have problem various model proliants.

What is your server's virus protection
I've seen Inoculan use up that much if the settings are too frequent.

How about other programs running on the menu?
Can you unload "Console"

Have you got File Caching switched off?

There's no virus software on this server
Client file cacheing os off

Try checking using the portal to see what may be causing the problem. It may be a certain NLM causing the issue. The portal will stay green, but it may indicate the problem. -----------------------------------------------------

Try a dsrepair, repair local ds. This fixes alot of utilization problems. Lee Smith

I've run dsrepair with no joy
In the portal server.nlm is the culprit.

What have you got installed on the server? IE... backup software, backup agents? -----------------------------------------------------
