Hello. Does anyone know why a win98 cpu would just restart itself, then on startup the screen remains black? If I turn the computer off for a while (30min - 1hr) it usually works again. Is there a setting that's working the video card too much and it's overheating? I'm not sure what kind of video card it is, but I'll know tomorrow, just thought someone might know right off the bat. Thanks in advance.

Iv'e seen this sort of problem before Goldeneye, but it really can be anything from overheating to bios settings.

The most recent case I saw was with a Radeon card (i believe the 9600) and this would behave the same as you describe.
What it turned out to be was the AGP Fast Write was set to ON in the bios and needed to be turned off. (have never been able to figure out exactly why, as the SMARTGART settings of Radeon cards have write caching (fast write) on?? Go figure)

If its not a Radeon Card, then your search should start with graphics card, then ram... the usual trial and error that occurs with one of these types of problems :)

Hope this helps some.

Kutt.

i think it is something wrong with cpu fan , maybe it don't work correctly , so that the cpu's temperature is too high ,please check the fan ,
