I've got an xseries 350 (8682-5RY) with two cpus and want to add two more to max it out. The cpus in the machine are 700/100/2M SL49S. I found a good deal on a pair of SL49R cpus that are also 700/100/2M so I bought them. However, I can't get them to work in the machine, getting a CPU error light everytime. I tried swapping out the two SL49S cpus for the SL49R but they don't work in slots 1 and 2 either.

The hardware maintenance manual for this server just says that the cpus must all have the same clock speed and cache. Is there any reason these SL49R cpus won't work beside the SL49S cpus in this machine?

Since it sounds like the fault follows the "new" CPUs, you have two options:
1. Re-flash the system BIOS with all 4 CPUs installed.
2. If they still don't work, maybe you didn't get such a "good" deal. Sounds like they may be dead.
