Hi,

Is there a way to retrieve the CPU / memory utilization for AIX server and make a threshold value set, if it crosses that threshold value, will trigger a mail to helpdesk for necessary action.

The "vmstat" command would be good for this for CPU and Memory utilization check ? If so, how we can set that? At present there is no tool available for alerting. Only nmon I have installed to get the performance data. But for the monitroing I want to set some script which will run at crontab.

How you guys are maintaing this performance alerting from the AIX servers ?

TIA .

Sam

I think this can be easily done through wsm!

you should be running an X11 window for that i guess!

wsm --> Monitoring --> Overview and Tasks --> Create a new condition --> Choose the resource class (as processor for example)

and then just fill the fields and do the response (by clicking on the responses button)

Regards,
Khalid

Khalidaaa,

Thanks for the response, but for my case all the servers are in RACK and they are connected through IBM 3151 terminal.

Can I do the same thing remotely from my laptop ?

any idea ?

TIA

Sam

Yes, download the wsm client to your laptop and then you will have gui access to the wsm interface on the server. The server will need to have x11 and wsm installed.

google for:
site:ibm.com wsm
for further info.

You can set alerts using the some of the rsct utilities installed with the OS.

Do a man on lsrsrc. You can set alarms and rearm them, etc.

And the benefit is you don't have to have wsm installed. It isn't that great.
