I don't know much about the desktop messaging. I have a CP100 and I would like to have an emailed copy of each voicemail message that is left in one particular mailbox. Will the desktop messaging capability send the voicemail as a .wav file attachement? how hard is is to set this up?

That is how desk top messaging works. On CP 100 I believe you need at least 2.0 software. There is client software on the CP CD and you need keycode to enable unified messaging.

ever set it up? Do I need a mail server at all? we have 2.0 s/w, I want to be sure that I will get a file attached with the voicemail.

the mailbox is a guest mailbox. how would that complicate matters?

If you're wanting to email wav files around, then yes, you will need a mail server. If you simply want to forward messages from one mailbox to another, you do not need a mail server (though you still require Outlook.)

On starting Outlook, the user will get a nortel login prompt. You should be able to login to any mailbox (our receptionist is setup to login to the general delivery mailbox, for example.) There's a special type of pst file that is used to store messages. The messages themselves are just shortcuts and not wav files. In order to generate a wav file suitable for emailing, one has to move it to another folder--simply copying it to another folder will not work (at least in my version.)

the customer uses the mailbox to accept telephone orders ("leave your order at the sound of the tone") but they want to make sure every order is processed. I just thought that if an emailed copy is kept on file in a computer, it would be some sort of comfort. ideally I would like to have this mailbox automatically copy its messages to another mailbox but I don't think it will do that. they're afraid a staff member deletes a voicemail message (and an order) and want a way to check on them.

so to confirm, a sound file is not attached, it is just a shortcut and I need a mail server (exchange only?)

Exchange isn't required. Once you move the message out of the inbox in the Nortel folder, it becomes a standard outlook message with a wav file attached, and you can treat it as you would any other.

I am using it with Outlook Express. My attachents are VBK files, which play with a Nortel supplied player.

I have never been a fan of Outlook, but I might start using it if it does give me a wav file.
