i'm swapping out a 1.5 CP100 with a 2.0 CP100. I plan to do a backup of the current configuration on the 1.5 and then reload that configuration to the 2.0.

will that cause a problem backing up a 1.5 and then restoring it to a 2.0? I plan to restore the greetings, mailboxes...everything.

why am I doing this? park and page feature.

You will lose the keycodes for any mailbox upgrades you have on the old CP. You will need to get new keycodes for the new CP. If it is a 10 mailbox to 10 mailbox it should be fine. You should be able to upgrade the 1.5 to 2.0 with the software card from the new CP.

so if i just shut off the CP100, remove the 1.5 version PCMCIA card and replace it with a the 2.0 PCMCIA card software that will upgrade the CP100? will i lose my greetings and mailbox messages?

the system only has 10 mailboxes, no ACD, nothing special.

am i wasting alot of time by backing up/ restoring?

No, backup just in case.
You need to follow the upgrade procedure.
The new software goes in the top slot and the current stays were it was. There is a whole list of prompts you need to go threw to upgrade it. Your vendor won't do it for you or do you just not want to pay for them to do it.
It is not something you just do. You need to know what you are doing.

Do you know how to connect to the CP with a serial connection? The instructions should be in the install guide.

Get out the CD and do a search in the PDF's for Upgrade. It's in one of them, I forget which one.

For what it's worth, I had a CallPilot 150 crash last Aug and replaced it with a new one. When I restored the new one with the backup from the old one, I had trouble(couldn't get any of the mailboxes to work). I called Nortel Tec support and they told me that the backups won't work well with a different unit. Go figure!

VencomRob,

well my vendor does not know how to upgrade the CP100. so i decided to buy another cp100 version 2.0. i planned on swapping out the units and relying on the backup/restore option.

so you are telling me i can put the 2.0 software in the second slot and follow the upgrade procedure in the manual.

i guessing once the upgrade is complete, i can shut the system off and take that 2.0 s/w out and put it back in the Cp100 that i bought.

Yes that is what I am telling you. You need to use the procedure that is done with the serial cable and hyperterm. Mentions hitting any key on boot up and choosing M for modify. Changing mode to L for load or something like that. You will know it when you see it.

56347!!!

okay, i backup the programming and then dumped it on my 2.0 version. NONE of the mailboxes worked!

I guess I've got get some upgrade card instead.

I just had that happen. Check under feature 9 8 3 option 44 and see how many mailboxes you actually have. I had to go back to ITAS and get the keycodes regenerated for the new voicemail serial number. I was doing a swap-out for a bad unit and when I did the restore all of the mailboxes authorizations disappeared, even though the mailboxes were programmed, since I had 23 mailboxes and 0 liscenses this was not good. I put in the new keycodes for the new unit and the system still would not allow mailbox access. when I did the restore of programming the original 10 mailboxes were lost and I had to get new authorizations from ITAS. as soon as I had enough authorizations to account for the programmed mailboxes then the customers could log in under feature 9 8 1.

Yes probably upgrade patch card, see FAQ for upgrading patches, make sure you have current boot loader, see FAQ for that too.

What numbers do you see on the Flash card you bought?

You will always lose your mailbox licences including the initial 20 mailboxes shipped with a CallPilot if doing a restore from a different CallPilot backup.
If you wish to do an upgrade then that is what the front slot is used for.
The original software load is placed in the rear slot and the upgrade card placed in the front. After power is restored to the CallPilot the software will be upgraded.
You should monitor this process using terminal software plugged into the serial port on the front of the CallPilot.
Also the boot method should be configured to Load (default).
You must create a CallPilot 2.0 S/W bootloader or BUY such a card from Nortel in order to perform the upgrade.
The bootloader can be reused to perform multiple upgrades to existing CallPilots.
However if you do not know how; or lack the resources to make your own boot loader, you would purchase a new boot loader for each new software release $$$

You can also perform this upgrade using a TFTP server if you find this easier than creating a bootloader.
You would still require a software image for the new release.
