Good afternoon all, I am very happy to see this forum here, and, having used the Veritas Backup Exec forum before, have seen from experience that you all are quite smart and very helpful. Thank you in advance for your time and patience in this problem, i am NEW to sendmail and not-so-new to UNIX, though im still in process of "getting my feet wet".
here are the two things im currently having and issue with and could use a pointer in the right direction:
1.) I have a test server that i have setup sendmail 8-12.11 on and have built/installed. close to completely done at this point but im running into a bit of a snafu with how this machine thinks it is. right now, i **BELIVE** that this machine thinks it IS @domain.com. When i send mail from it to an address that is NOT in the /etc/mail/aliases file, it delivers it locally to /var/mail. Before i backed up and installed this latest version of sendmail, this machine was acting as a 'relay' and taking mail sent from it @domain.com and sending it forward to our @mail.public.domain.com and delivering it to the proper person(s). Short of rebuilding it and reinstalling it with 'FEATURES' so i can use something like LOCAL_RELAY or Masquerading, is there a way or place that i can simply tell this machine "if i dont find the address in /etc/mail/aliases, HERE is where i look to find where to send this forward to" (ie, local-host-names, /etc/hosts (for mail host), or somewhere else?)
thank you all again for your help in this, i HOPE i was clear enough and if not, please ask me to clairify. Thank you, and i think that one problem is enough for right now. I will hit others later when i get this one knocked out.
thank you again
