My company has asked me to add a link to another site and count the number of times the link is hit. I currently have counters on all of our pages however I don't know how to count the number of hits that a external site is getting.

Can someone help me out?

you could install an invisible counter on the page that the click would send the user to.

I tend to prefer This will give you the information you need to see where the user was referred from. Also, the counter can't be seen so no one knows you are counting their traffic.

Put any counter you want on a redirect page.
For example, the link you have, instead of going directly to the other page, goes to a hidden redirect page. This page only has a bit of code on it, and your counter, the viewer never sees anything. When they hit the link, it increments the counter, then goes directly to the page you want.
If you want an example of the code for a redirect, let us know. Cheers,
Jim
