I have a report based on a query that groups first by class and then by gender. My report counts my check boxes just fine. But I also need it to count by gender. Gender is text and is a value list in my original table. My question is how can I count gender while also grouping by it? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

this sounds coincidentally like ranebow's post of today, just two down from yours in this same forum. please check that one out first. is this you is disguise?

thanks, no this isn't ranebow, i read that post and when i tried it i got an error, im not sure if this is because i'm using a value list for gender in the original table or do i need to put the ID field in my query and reference the query not the table..any help again would be appreciated, thanks

..also this is a summary report and my query is grouped by classes and gender and sumed by my check box fields, if this helps

what are the check boxes for?
what is the structure (fields) in your table?
what does the data look like? (examples of rows in the table)
what is your sql of the query that the report is based on?

I got an error too when I tried doing the first statement:

= DCount("ID","Table","class = "&[Class])

I'm still working on my report too. Just posted a response to GingerR. What she has given me has been a help but I'm still having problems.

my data is broken down and grouped as follows in my report

Class
white hispanic black disabled disadvantaged
Female 10 0 3 2 8

Male 9 0 1 1 6

My query is written to sum all the fields above except it groups gender and class. white, hispanic etc..are all yes/no in the table and gender is text/value list where they can pick female or male (to save on spelling errors etc..) and class they also pick from a drop down box-text..What i want is a total of females=13 next to female
white hispanic black
female 13 10 0 3

thanks for the help!

In the group footer for gender place a text box whose control source is:
Code:
=Count(*)

That Worked! Thank you all for your help! Thanks Cosmo.
