I have a main form and a subform. The main form is bound to tblNumber and the subform is bound to the table tblItems. There is a one to many relationship between tblNumber and tblItems I have about 6 users who constantly need to add records into the form/subform. The users can enter data in the main form perfectly, but once they get to the subform Access just freezes and then a few minutes later they receive an error message:
Could not update; currently locked.

What could be the cause and resolution for this? I have searched the web but couldn't come to a good conclusion. I have compacted and repaired the database but users are still getting that error. Which leaves them at a work stoppage because they can't add any records.

Are the form and the subform properly linked ?
What is the lock method in the Advanced tab of menu Tools -> Options ...

Hope This Helps, PH.

Yes they are properly linked. I failed to mention that the database has been working fine for the last 3 months. It's this past week that users started getting errors. Before only 2 or 3 were inserting new records but now it's 6.. would that have anything to do with it?

Right now under Default record locking it is on No locks

Another thing, when everyone has exited out of the database and I try to do a Compact and Repair it tells me that

"You attempted to open a database that is already opened exclusively by user 'cbanks' on machine 'RGLG0441'. Try again when the database is available.

It gives me this error but no one is in the database. So I have to manually go and delete the .ldb files. So it seems for some reason it is not automatically deleting the .ldb files??

Check that the user 'cbanks' has sufficient credential on the database's directory.

I am using the Auto FE Updater. And the database is secured. Each person has a shortcut on their desktop which points to the .ini file which then in turn makes a copy of the FE to their Local C drive.

I was also thinking that someone does not have all permissions so when they lock a record, it never gets unlocked. But it has been verified that all users do have those permissions.

What is so strange is that it has been working perfectly fine up until now.. and why is it that once they get to the subform it locks up.

Perhaps some renewed interested in this thread would be good, as I am experiencing the same problem with one of my multi-user databases w/ Access user-level security. The only thing that fixes this is to have all of the users log out of the DB, then compact/repair. For the last month, this is happening on an average of once every two days.

I have done all of the things above as well yet the problem persists.
