could not detect modem. It may be in use, turned off or not installed.

I restarted my machine I thought it might be still in use but difference then I queried the modem every thing came as success.

Finally, I uninstalled and then re-installed the modem but still no luck.

Operating System: Windows XP Professional Edition
Modem: Motorola

Thanks in advance

Saqi

Apologies Saqi, I can usually decipher what people mean but I am lost with;

"I restarted my machine I thought it might be still in use but difference then I queried the modem every thing came as success."

Please update,

Thanks.

Win98user,

It should be me who apologise. I meant modem might be still in use that's why I restarted the machine.

Saqi Knowledge is something no one can steal from you and it increase as time goes by. Saqi

Hmmm, rebooting the machine should have done the job. uninstalling shouldn't have been necessary.

Have you checked the system devices to ensure that the modem is loaded ok?

Have you checked your dialup settings to make sure that they are using the correct modem?

Have you connected the modem to the same port?

I would also clear out the temporary files, internet junk etc.

It may also be worth running scan disk.

A final point I would add - You do a lot of posting in these forums - What you need to do is spend a little cash on getting a programme such as ghost or partition magic and backing your system up to a CD-rewriter. With regular backups, problems like this can be fixed with reloading the last back up.

Regards.

My advice is given for free but may have a cost in usage.

;-)

Just a few things for you to look at.

Regards.

You may think this is a joke, but have you tried SHUTTING DOWN your computer? Bolive it or not, restarting only rarely does the job...

What type of motorola modem is it?Some of themare software based modems that emulate a DSP.If you look in your modem properties and see "soft" or "HCF" modem anywhere more than likely you will need to download the software drivers for the device(unless you have the systems disk that came with the comp??).Without these drivers windows might be able to install the modem but wont be able to use it as it will expect the modem to process the incoming and outgoing signals.Sometimes these drivers can fail to load, initialise or whatever and the modem wont work
Hope this Help you,
David
