Could not add the requested component. The error is: The specified path does not contain any applicable device INFs"

This is the message I get every time I try to add a protocol to my network connection.

I am told that something is corrupt but I have no idea how to fix it.

This happend as I was trying to install Ximeta network drive.
There tech support suggested I try to install a protocol manually

This is there instructions:

1) Right Click My Network Places- click on Properties.

2) Right Click on Local Area Connection – click on Properties

3) Click Install and then choose Protocol.

4) Point it to the C:\Program Files\Ximeta\Netdisk\drivers folder and select the netlpx.inf file.

I can not get past step 3, once I click on add I get the above mentioned message.
Can anyone help?

Thank you.

Pierre

A) Right click to open the properties window of the network connection
B) Click Install
C) Click Protocol, then Add
D) Click Have Disk
E) Type the path to the .inf file, for example: C:\Program Files\Ximeta\Netdisk\drivers, and click OK (if you try to click Browse, then browse to the \inf folder, it may not show up in the list).
F) You should now see the protocol listed in the list of available protocols. Select it and click OK.
G) Restart the computer

I did the above.
My problem is I can't get past step (C) I get the error as soon as I click Add.

This happens regardless of what I decide to add. a protocol, a service or anything else, I get the same message: (Could not add the requested component. The error is: The specified path does not contain any applicable device INFs)

You have a bad registry entry.

Start, Run, regedit

Click on this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
Scroll past the folders to show this value: DevicePath

The value should be %SystemRoot%\Inf and of type REG_EXPAND_SZ.

I am having a similar problem (Could not add the requested component. The error is: This function is not supported on this system)

did that last response fix your problem?

HERE'S HOW I SOLVED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM.

bcastner is correct
"Start, Run, regedit

Click on this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
Scroll past the folders to show this value: DevicePath

The value should be %SystemRoot%\Inf and of type REG_EXPAND_SZ."

The only thing different is that I had to enter C:\windows\inf
After a reboot, everything worked perfectly. At that point, just follow bcastner's original instructions & you'll be good to go.

Thanks all for the feedback. I am sure this will help others.
