CorVu v Business Objects.

Some comments attempt to clear up some misconceptions in the CorVu vs. Business Objects debate in relation to Mincom Ellipse.
There is no Mincom specific version of Business Objects. Mincom uses the current commercially available Business Objects components as a base for its new reporting solution.
Trying to do a comparison between CorVu and Business Objects is likely to be a task of little value. Many Mincom customers, largely to provide ad-hoc reporting, have implemented CorVu; although some customers have used it to provide a form of additional production reporting sitting external to MIMS/Mincom Ellipse. What Mincom has now done is to develop a new production reporting capability that is powered by Business Objects. This production reporting capability is fully integrated within Mincom Ellipse giving the end user access to high quality reports from within the Mincom Ellipse product.
The bottom line is that what you would be comparing is a tool used by most Mincom customers for ad-hoc reporting to a fully integrated production reporting system that coincidentally can also be used for ad-hoc reporting. So, if you are doing a comparison of the two products it is likely that you might have missed the point of why the new reporting solution has been developed.
Perhaps the question that you should be asking is “is there justification for introducing the new production reporting system on its merits alone?” The answer will for most organisation be – “yes!” The next question would then be “do I need to keep using CorVu given that most of its capabilities are now redundant?’ The answer here will depend very much on the use and investment the company has made in CorVu and will range from “no” through to “given our investment it is here to stay”.

Perhaps the term Mincom Enhanced, given that Mincom has created a number of Universes that ship wit the product. I'd also dispute that it is a "fully integrated production reporting system" given that there are only 128 or so reports (rdl's) that have been developed for it.
For us CorVu provides certainly an ad hoc reporting tool, but also a production reporting tool. It is in that context that comparisons can usefully be made.

I'd wait several releases until Ellipse 6 at least before engaging the Mincom Reporting Solution. It isn't mature enough yet.
