Experiencing vast random corruption within FoxPro 2.6a. Recently updated to Novell Netware 5.1, Client 3.31, Version E. PerfectLaw Time & Billing is our billing software. Complete reindexes done daily along w/fptchks. Cache writes are off. Does anyone have any suggestions other than upgrading to SQL?

So are you saying that you have just upgraded the client software or the Novell server or both? There were some problems with the early releases of the Novell Client not recognizing record locks by FoxPro, especially Fox DOS, but I'm not sure which version they cured those ills in. Make sure you have the latest version of the client installed on the workstations, and make sure you have enough file handles available on the server. Then verify the LAN hardware like routers, NICs, cables etc. are working properly.

You need to check an advanced setting. Go to the Client Properties either by right-clicking the red N in the system tray or through network properties. Once there, select the Advanced Settings tab, then select the File System Group and then the Use Extended File Handles setting. This setting must be set to ON. If not, Microsoft has allowed their software to exceed the normal number of file handles and this will cause corruption in data every time you exceed this number.

We only upgraded the Novell server from Netware 4.11 to 5.1. I have checked all of the settings DSummZZZ & eandres suggested & they were already set properly. We recently received info from Novell saying to set the following: Autoreconnect level=1, Checksum=2, Close behind ticks=0, Opportunistic locking=Off, True Commit=On. Any other suggestions? TX for your help!
