Opps, I deleted /etc ! I managed to copy another machine's /etc and I was still able to work. Now I have rebooted and Im stuck. Dont get anything on the screen when I power up.

I would like to reinstall the OS 10.2, but I dont have the option to check the CD when I boot. ( I dont get any options just black screen )

machine is a B132 and Im using an external CD that was not mounted when I rebooted.

Suggestions?

have a look on your backups to see if you have copied the /etc directory other wise it will mean a rebuild as most of the system files ie fstab will be in there.

You will need to go in to single user mode and then reboot this should then mout it and all ok.

I want to rebuild at this point.

When I power up the box I never see any progress (black screen).

Graphics prob?

Thanks,

Mikeb

You may try this! turn on machine. If your keyboard is a PS2 style hit the tab key a couple of times after the numlock light led blinks if you have a hil keyboard hit the tab key a couple of times. this puts the computer in a monitor search routine. When you get a screen that works hit the enter key to lock it in. As for the cdrom I believe it must be a toshiba model (brand hp used) and set the scsi id to #2. I think this might help with the boot. the boot proccess uses something like 1024 or 2048 boot block size
which not all cdroms support. Hope this might help some it worked on my model at least. Good Luck!
