To Everyone:

A laptop user who has offline files enabled, complained that he lost all the graphics files he created during the weekend. Since the total size of the offline folders is 80GB we previously used cachemov to move the CSC folder to an external USB drive (Drive F).

I tried viewing the files (Windows Explorer - Tools - Folder Options - Offline files - View files) but all are gone with "Amount of disk space used for temp files = 0%" even though the hidden CSC folder size equals 80 GB.

Disabling / Enabling Offline files result in this error:

"Offline files cannot be enabled. The device is not ready."

I then performed in Folder Options, on the Offline Files tab, CTRL+SHIFT, and clicked on Delete Files. Rebooted twice but I still get the above error.

Desperate, I manually deleted the contents of the CSC folder, rebooted, and I still get the above error.

Running the cachemov to return the CSC folder to the C Drive fails repeatedly!

Desperate, I manually deleted the contents of the CSC folder and rebooted but I got the same error again.

How can I force a reset of the offline folder to enable it again? Thanks in advance to those who can offer some enlightenments.

A good first step would be to run chkdsk c: /f at restart and then try re-enabling offline files.

fwiw, when I've come across this same situation, the steps I've followed are to run chkdsk <x:> /f, restart the pc unplugged from the network, then open the synchronized network drive letter. Often I have found files that were created/modified and placed in the CSC folder but never actually copied up to the network. Not sure why that happens, but it sometimes does and the risk of data loss is, unfortunately, real. Easier if data is there, to just copy to another directory rather than use cachemov, imho.

Thanks 4thwall for the reply but it didn't work.

To ALL:
Should a OS repair worked?
