How should we deal with an .mdb file which has been split into a backend database and will not allow compiler to create an .mde file because it has been corrupted?

torontostar,

Back up your corrupted .mdb file. Then try to Compact and Repair. For Compact and Repair on the menu bar click Tools->Database Utilities->Compact and Repair Database... or use this link to get a utility from microsoft.
If no luck then create a new empty database and Import data from the corrupted, table by table or copy paste if possible. Or export all tables as txt files and then import those txt to a new empty database. If still no luck, use your last back up copy of the before corruption BE database. If still no luck..........

Has happened, still happens and will keep happening to a lot of us.

... and finally move forward to MSDE for your back end!
