We have a corrupt user message file msg12.db and it is telling me to do a restore of the file. Now I know that this file has been corrupt for at least a month while we have been trying to get it fixed and I don't think that I have a backup of a non corrupt file. The question is if I re create the users database and restore their file from a groupwise restore area that I would create by backing up the post office would this bring back the corrupt records?

The problem is that msg12.db is not a user database, but one of the various message databases and therefore many users may have messages that are stored there.

Sounds like you are in a bit of a pickle. None of the GW repair options helped? You may have to send the file to Novell for hands-on repair. Opening a tech support incident is expensive but usually worth it.

I wonder what would happen if I did the following

1) Create a new post office and move the user to the new post office.

I would stop the internet agent to stop messages flowing and do a backup of the post office before doing this.

Dude... (note that I only say dude in extreme cases to emphasize avoiding a major disaster)..

That's not the way to do it. That won't fix it, it will only make things worse for you. Don't make your problems worse than they already are. You need to get professional help. Either call Novell or call a qualified GroupWise consultant. I'm guessing that Novell is your best route and you need to escalate your problem quickly to GroupWise category specialist. The frontline guys in India won't be able to help you.
