Corrupt NDS Replica

We have a cluster of six serves all running NetWare 5. We lost the NIC in the Border Manager server. This server was used for routing internal and external communications. When the NIC died we ended up corruption the NDS replica on that server. It was only a subordinate and not the Master or Secondary.

Is there a way to repair this corrupted replica or do I have to wipe the server and reinstall? I know we can upgrade and move replicas as needed to repair servers but I can not seem to get this replica to correct itself. Any ideas?

If there is "only" a subordinate on that server, then you "should" be able to remove directory services and then "Install directory services" back on that computer.

I guess I would be sure to have a good backup of NDS before doing anything. Then try a dsrepair first.

The problem is that the NDS database directory on that specific server is "locked". In order to remove, repair, or update NDS on that server is to work with the open database. The server is stuck in locked posture as if in intruder lockout. We have corrupt core files and format and reinstallation is the only recourse.

However, I forced NDS to install over the top of itself from the replica's on the other servers. This allowed me to get the data off. Now we will format and rebuilt from a fresh start. Before I tried this I downloaded and applied two patches that Novell recommended. There is not much anyone can do if the local NDS database remains locked.

Thanks for your suggestions anyway.
