Has anyone had any problems with downloading large files with xp. Every time I download a file from the internet or receive a large e-mail attachement, I am unable to open the file. I have turned off the firewall incase that was what was causing the problem, but it is still happening.
It downloads the files no problem but if you try to run them I always get an error about it being corrupted.
Any Ideas?

Cheers

Have you virus scanned recently?

Have you tried using a download manager?

I have norton antivirus running and I update it regularly.
I turned off e-mail scanning incase that had something to do with it.
I haven't had a problem before it only started a few weeks ago and it was mainly zip files (bad crc errors)
could it be our connection being dropped for a split second.
We have an ISDN line with a diva adapter.
I am trying to download the same file on a win 98 machine at the moment just to make sure that it is my machine and not the connection.

If it is the connection, then a download manager definitely a good idea. You could try this (free, ad supported version of Reget - its no longer available from their website. If you do use it, say no to any upgrades it offers, unless you want to pay for current version).

I've heard of a similar problem and he used Netscapes download manager and it was fine after that. A good question is half of knowledge

Ive tryed using the download manager 'reget' but im still having the same problem. I have tried downloading the same files on a win 98 machine which uses the same connection as me and didn't have any problems so I think its my machine.

any ideas?

GinjaNinja, I'm running XPHE, with DSL. Have downloaded thousands of files, including SP1 (~160M), and Photoshop (~100M) with no known problems.

weve had an ASDL modem installed on the network and that seems to have solved it.

Thanks all.
