I have just been looking at some of the other threads around, and it has just come to my attention. When I started here nearly a year ago, I was thrown into the world of IT with no knowledge of computers, but the biggest problem was with Viruses, and Norton antivirus.

Now I had a big problem with the Klez virus on our client pc's, but the servers seemed well protected. Now after about 7 - 8 months of virus attacks from Klez, once or twice a month, I decided to try to kill it once and for all, so I went round each client in turn, uninstalled NAV, and got rid of any trace of it on the pc, ran 2 klez cleaning tools that I had found then reinstalled NAV corporate edition (The client part - obviously) as unmanaged, set the live updates to run with our proxy settings, and I have not had a problem with any viruses since then.

The point is, that we are no longer being updated from the Server, is there a problem in that, and would it be better to reinstall as a managed system, or is it just what suits your system and the way it is run?

The main advantage of being managed is, well management [lol].

Seeing client status, scan history, central quarantine, etc.

Aside from the above, I don't believe safety issues to be compromised by having the clients in an unmanaged mode.

wbg32 is correct. Going to a managed environment is quite easy. I guess I just didn't get that he was looking to go back, just wondering pros/cons.

Very nice of you to provide the link!

Thankyou both of you, You are right polymath5, I wasn't necessarily after going to a managed environment, I was just after the pros and cons, but to find out how to revert back is just the biggest bonus.

The reason that I went to unmanaged, was that I needed to reinstall them all, as some were managed and some weren't, and although I could have gone down that route at the time, I did not know what would have been involve. But I am going to try it out and play around on one of the clients and see what happens.

Thanks again
Rob
