I am using Corel Draw 11 for windows. I haved saved several documents to PDF format and the PDF's will not print out when sent to a printer. I think I have read that the PDF format that 11 saves to is version 4 of adobe acrobat. Is there any way I can make a printable PDF in CD11 that can be printed by acrobat 6 and below?

I've never been a fan of any programme with pdf export, there always seems to be something not quite right (bit of a sweeping statement) I prefer using full Acrobat but some of the others ie Jaws does a good job and you can use all the excellent Corel print engine features. Doesn't help you with this question I know but maybe food for thought.

I also use CDR 11 and export to PDF to print, I us Acrobat 6 and have no problems at all in printing from it. It may be that you need to mess around a bit in settings when you save as a PDF. But even then it should not effect you printing from Acrobat 6. Sorry that I can't help on this one.
