Hey all,

The executives decided that they want cordless phones for the shop floor managers. We're looking at the EnGenius DuraFon 4x, which will give us the ability to give them all phones that they can use in all our buildings. However, voicemail would become a problem. What options are there for us that works with the Merlin Legend system so that each phone would have its own extension on the merlin legend system?

We don't have 802.11, and will not be installing one anytime soon, so phones that use that technology won't work.

Thanks in advance,

Danny

You can use engenius phones off a legend using an analog port. It will essentially work as a single-line set. Then just assign a mailbox to that analog extension. You won't get a message waiting light, but they can check messages from it by dialing voicemail (usually 770 on Legend). They did make Transtalk 9030/9040 telephones that will work on a hybrid card (I believe) on a legend, but those phones were always very tempermental.

Telecomboy,

That'd work just fine for 1 person. We're talking 10 or so. The message waiting light isn't super important, but an individual mailbox that you don't have to hang up and dial after calling the person is a requirement.

Thanks,

Danny

Could you clarify this requirement? Not sure what you're getting at.

Sure,

The EnGenius phone system I mentioned has four analog lines, which obviously would connect to the analog line card in our lengend. Each of those ports would have an ext number, lets say 210-213. Dialing one of those numbers would get you to the EnGenius autoattendant, where you would have to specify which EnGenius phone you want (up to 36). The EnGenius system does not have voicemail in it. So, say I call the Molding manager, who has EnGenius phone number 10. I'd call 210, then dial 10. It would ring, and they don't answer. We don't want people to have to hang up, and dial a phantom mailbox to leave a message.

Does that clear it up?

Danny

Ah, not familiar with the 4x product - I would recommend using the 1x instead, although that would require 10 bases and 10 handsets. Each one gets its own extension number with voice mail provided by the Legend.
