couple of questions
i have been to by bs-support that the contrast on the 207 and 208 ip phones cannot be changed but i though i read somewhere it could .....any ideas ?

can the volumes be set on a per phone basis ?

i have set 3000 priv libs in siz and want to allocate 200 each to some phones...it lets me put them in station definition but only show 40 when i come to program...any thoughts

200 Private Libraries - why???????? Surely a user doesn't need this many.

From PI manual under KEY. In theory you can have up to 255.
PRIV_LIBS [2] 0..10..255 (limited by numbering plan)
Determines the maximum number of speed call (Private Library) numbers available.

So when you enter this you get.....???? Or something else?

FROM PRIV_LIB#- 7000 (first Priv.Lib.)
TO PRIV_LIB#- 7039 (last Priv.Lib)

Although theoretically it's possible I can't see why anyone would want to. What's the reason? Are Public not suitable? I don't know anyone who uses Priv.Lib. these days (and haven't seen anyone in over 12yrs use more than 5-10).


As for volume I got this from the user guide
Volume Adjustment
Press the volume key to increase or decrease the volume of the phone loudspeaker and handset.
While the volume is being changed, the top line of the display shows the volume level.
Speaker volume levels range from a MIN unit value of 0 to a MAX unit value of 9 (14dB range).
The Handset volume level ranges from a MIN unit value of 0 to a MAX unit value of 9 (14dB range).
Speaker and Handset each has its own audio level and is independently influenced by volume buttons as follows:
• Speaker: When conversing through the speaker, voice volume can be adjusted. Volume of call monitoring, paging, etc.
can also be adjusted. This can also be done from idle.
• Speakerphone: When conversing hands-free, the built-in sensitive microphone is used to amplify your voice. The system
operates in such a way that the two connecting parties (i.e. you and the far side) cannot be heard simultaneously; the
stronger party is heard. Press VOL + to hear the far side more strongly, press VOL - to be heard more easily (or to
break in).
• Handset: When conversing through the handset or headset, receiver volume can be adjusted.

Or are you wanting to adjust the gain level for speech? This can be done but I'd look at other issues before getting in to adjusting this.

As for contrast, I can't find anything in the user guide but I'll do some digging.

So just to clarify, in SIZ you have
max libraries (14096)
PRIVATE (10000) - 3000
PUBLIC (4096) - 5000
or something???

3000 Priv. Libs. will allow you to have 200 on 15 phones and none on anyone else. Under KEY for every port though you have

SEC_COS- 0
PRIV_LIBS- 10 (change this to 0 for any xtns that don't require them, change to 200 for those who do)

The setting in KEY will usually allow you to put anything. If you're reached the 3000 limit of "programmed" Libs you will still see them in LIB,1 but won't be able to enter anything. Strange that you only see 7000-7039. I'll need to try it on a system and see what happens.

Volume is adjusted per phone using the volume buttons. If they still complain this is too low there are other factors - types of lines?? Is it ALL users or just one? You can adjust gain on a per port, or port type, in the Coral eg IPKeyset-ISDN or IPKeyset-IPKeyset but this is a last resort. Check other issues before getting to this. Have you heard the supposed low volume? Maybe it's user error - not holding the phone correctly or something stupid.

Shoot me now! Dunno how I could've missed such a simple thing....

In NPL you only have 7000-7039 allocated as Priv.Libs! It's that simple. You just need to add 7040-7254 starting on Index 40. You'll need to make sure they don't conflict with any other numbers in the NPL - in default it will conflict with a lot including 7070 for the remote modem. So you'll probably need to renumber things.

Ref. your query on handset volume.
I've had similar comments from other sites.
There is a fix for this.
Later versions of MGCP handset firmware (4.44 and above) have a change where the difference in range of the handset volume has been increased.
It still goes from 0 to Max, but the actual volume range within this has been increased if that makes sense. i.e volume level 9 in 4.44 and above is actually louder than 9 on previous firmware versions.

We have a similar issue with volume, when agents use headsets.

The 4.44 firmware upgrade helped, but still some users report low volumes. This seems to be as much related to the headsets as the phones - it took us a long while to find headsets that were usable with our 207s and 208s.

If you are talking about using handsets - the 4.44 firmware is certainly loud enough for us.
