Copyright symbol 1

if you are on a MAC.....which you should be,

Press OPTION G with the text HELVETICA selected....

Your KEYCAPS will show you all of those type symbols....it's under yer APPLE MENU

If you have Microsoft "Word," try this: In "Word," type (c) followed by a space. If you have the default settings, the (c) will change to a copyright symbol.

Next, select and copy (CTRL + C) that copyright symbol.

Then, go to your page in Illustrator, click on the Text tool, and paste (CTRL + V) the symbol. Once you've done that, you can change the font size, add words after the symbol, and so forth, just as you can for regular text.

There may be simpler ways that someone else will mention to achieve this result, but at least this works.

Gort,

I was assuming you had Illustrator open with the TYPE tool selected when I submitted that last post..

Hope it makes sense.

On a Mac, option-2 is a TM. option-g is the copywrite. option-r is the circle R.

Does anyone know the PC equivilants to these?

To get the copyright symbol hold down Alt and type in 0169.
As soon as you release the Alt key the symbol while show up.

Right on ocampo! I found that in Windows you goto Start Menu -> programs -> accessories -> system tools -> character map to get a complete listing of special characters and their convoluted key combo. Why oh why cant windows be more like MacOS!?

Alt 0169 didn't work. nor do I get a special characters option in my system tools.

If I press the Alt key when in Illustrator, I just get an error bell as soon as i try to press another key. Is the special characters something I needed to install when I install Windows? Jon Holmen

ocampo is right, if you click anywhere in your document with the type tool so that you can actually add type, hold ALT and type 0169. What version of windows and illustrator are you using?

Problems with special characters are a bug (or special feature depending on how you view it) in Illustrator for Windows. I have found that I can cut characters out of MS Word and paste them into Illustrator. You won't see them, but they are there. You can prove they are there by saving the document and opening it in Photoshop, where you special character will appear. Unfortunately, it is not only hard to work in Illustrator when you cannot see special characters, but it also does not space appropriately for characters that don't display.

If the copyright sysmbol is the only one that you need, I would recommend creating your own character... a circle with a c in the middle.

alt 0169 doesn't work for me either...wonder why..illustrator 9, win 98se...any ideas?

special characters are usually only available in the more standard of fonts. You could acheive a circle-r in Arial, but switch it to FranksNewFont and you chance leaving a blank where your copywrite symbol once was.

"ocampo is right, if you click anywhere in your document with the type tool so that you can actually add type, hold ALT and type 0169."

Ill even do it right here in the post
ALT+0174 gives you a ® (option+r on a Mac)

ALT+0169 gives you a © (option+g on a Mac)

ALT+0153 gives you a ™ (option+2 on a Mac)

Anyone still think Windows is easier to use than MacOS?

P.S. Start Menu -> programs -> accessories -> system tools -> character map will show you all the special characters and key commands.

on PC hold ctrl+alt+C to get ©, ctrl+alt+R to get ®
and by the way, while holding the ctrl+alt you can make many more characters....so here are some characters by typing letters or numbers while holding ctrl+alt...(characters may variate if you add shift to the combo)

ä å é ® þ ü ú í ó ö « » ´ ¶ ø ð ß á æ © ñ µ ç ¿ Ä Å É Þ Ü Ú Í Ó Ö ¨ ° Ø Ð § Á Æ ¢ Ñ Ç ¹ £ ÷ × ¥ ’ ‘ ¾ ½ ¼ € ¤ ³ ² ¡

which letter to press, go figure

hope that would help
