Does anyone know how to copy windows XP operating system from an internal hard drive to an usb external hard drive? I would like to be able to boot from the external drive if my internal hard drive gives out. Is there any way of doing this?

You can try making a mirror copy of your current set up to an external USB drive with Acronis True Image ( I haven't used it myself yet but I've heard good things. Might cost a few bucks, too, but in the end if it saves your time it's more then worth it.

After you get the mirror copy set up on your external, you just need to go into your BIOS and set the boot sequence to start the USB drive first.
