I am trying to copy a .wav file from my pc to the val announcement board and I get the following error: "Failed to copy (wav. file) from VAL board. Validate Audio File Type Header : , because its compression code is '1', which is not a-Law (6) or Mu-Law (7".

Is anyone familiar with this type error and is it something I can change?

Thanks!

regular wav files will not work.

you wave file needs to be in the following format:

Bit Rate - 64kbps
Audio sample size - 8 bit
Channels - 1 (mono)
Audio sample rate - 8kHz
Audio format - CCITT u-law

Windows built-in "sound recorder" app can save in this format.

Thank you, I was able to convert the wav files to the format above and copied it to the val board. It stated that file was successfully copied. The problem now is that the file size is 0 bits and it is stating that it is not on the board. On my PC, it works fine and file size is 4.80mb. Any ideas?

are you using VAL manager to copy the file? I have never had good results in using VAL manager personally. Always buggy.

I prefer the manual method.

First get an ftp program or just use windows command line FTP. I prefer to use secure connections so i use WinSCP as a gui transfer client.

Second, in ASA for CM, 'enable filexfer'
make up a login and password that you will use with your ftp client. select Y for secure if you use SCP. board address is the location of the VAL board (01A10)

Third, iniate the ftp/scp. if using command line, be sure to put in binary mode, most ftp gui clients do this for you.

by default it will put you in the /annc directory on the VAL board which is where you want to be. copy the file to the board.

once completed, from ASA for CM, 'disable filexfer board 01A10'

Thanks, couple of questions:
When using FTP am I to use the server (CM) IP address or the VAL board IP address?
Not sure I understand that after I ftp the .wav file where to find it and how to copy from there. Could you detail that a bit more?

Thanks much, I really appreciate it!

you ftp to the IP of the VAL board. it acts as the FTP 'server'

once you have the filed copied to the VAL board you will need to create the announcement add announcement n (or the extension you want to assign to it). The exact name of the file (minus the .wav) is the name you have to use when adding the announcement. No spaces in the name, also keep them under 16 characters long so like aa_menu, or greeting. it is also case sensitive.

once you have created the announcement give it 10 second and then dial the new announcement number to listen to your announcement.

BTW, there are FAQ's for this on this forum.

From an old document I had (C:\val is the directory where the files are fyi, could be whatever you choose)

Type, “enable filesystem board xxxxx” The login is “val”
Then add password, “val11234567”

When finished with back up type “disable filesystem board xxxxx”

To restore from the saved directory, follow all of the above procedures except “mget.wav”, you will replace this command with “mput.wav” and the announcements will be restored to the val board. Please see the example below.
Good luck.

C:\val>ftp 10.11.1.238
Connected to 10.11.1.238.
220 FTP server ready
User (10.11.1.238:(none)): val

ftp: 292058 bytes received in 0.68Seconds 428.87Kbytes/sec.

and so on...
