Copying the CaseID field 1

We've got ARS 5.1, on a Win2K box, hitting a SQL 2K db.

I've created a simple form to just allow personnel to track outages and stuff. I'd like to copy the case id field to that form so that each one of those entries also gets a unique number like cases do. My question is how to do that? Will it mess anything else up? If I can get it over to the form, will it start over with HD0000000000001?

If you are creating a 2nd form where you want to cross-reference the Incident Case ID - I would create a character field on the new form and create workflow to post the Case ID to this field. Thus not interfering with the new form's unique request ID but also achieving the relationship with the Case.
