Copying Exchange MDBDATA Folder

Does anyone know what is required to make a copy of the MDBDATA folder on an Exchange 2003 server?

It would not let me do so while the server was online--I assume because the information store was using it---but I do not want to unmount the information store only to find out there is something else preventing the copy.

Thanks in advance

Depends on what's IN the mdbdata folder. If it's just the .edb and .stm files, you'll need to dismount the database to copy them. If the system and transaction log files are also in there, you'd likely have to dismount all databases in the storage group to make sure that no files are locked.

What's the need to copy them?

Ok thank you.
