I have a 1.5GB drive with Redhat on it. I want to copy everything on the small drive to a larger one within the same box. Then I would like to use the big drive as the primary and remove the small drive. What do you think is the best way to accomplish this??
I'd be tempted to try taking an image of the drive using Norton Ghost. However that's just because I have a copy lying around - it is a DOS program, so would involve booting off a floppy and then running Ghost from a floppy disk.
There must be a similar disk imaging program for Linux as well.
I think before you use disk duplication, you have to make sure that the hard drives you'll be transferring from and to, are similar. But if you decide to use disk duplication, I highly recommend Image Cast 3. Their url is:
We had to duplicate hard disks to all the computers in our lab here at CSUN. We tried out Norton Ghost and Image Cast and the computers that were installed with Image Cast transferred alot faster. Settings were P2 266, Western digital 6 GB hds, novell network, installing windows 98 SE and MS office.
With that setup, we were able to transfer up to 80 mb/min using ImageCast on 6 machines at once. With the Norton Ghost, the results were only 46mb/min
