Here is a situation.
My user has a Palm Pilot IIIxe and he would like to use it with Lotus Organizer 6.0. Lotus comes with EasySync which I have used before with no problems on new Palms which had not data initially on it.
This Pal Pilot has data going about 5 years back. When I tried to sync it was taking forever and wouldn't fininsh for half a day so I had to quit. I then went to update to Palm software (downloaded it from Palm's website). That didn't help either. Then I recommened the user to just get a new Palm, but the concern is will he be able to copy the data from his old Palm to his new one? I had a spare Palm to test the instructions on doing so from Palm's website and it wouldn't work.
I also tried exporting data from Palm Software but that only gives me an option of exporting in .dba format which is useless for me.
So, what I am trying to accomplish is this. Copy data from old Palm to new Palm and sych it with Lotus Organizer. Anyone knows how to accomplish that?

Hi Maggie

If you are looking to move the 4 basic databases on the palm, try this... download a free program called filez ( palmgear.com or handango.com).. and install it on the old palm. Open filez and look for a files named:
AddressDB
DatebookDB
MemoDB
ToDoDB

Theses are the old databases from the IIIxe. Beam each one to the new unit and then hotsync the new unit. This will place all the old data on the new unit.

Starting with the Palm Tungsten T3, Palm changed the databases to be Contacts, Calendar, Memo, and Tasks.. which are stored on the Palm in other databases. The 4 databases above are still on the new units, but the Palm will copy them over to the new DB's automatically.

Hope this helps.

thanks a lot. I got the new palm and was able to copy data from the old palm to the new one. One last thing left to figure out is how to make it sync properly with Lotus organizer

Sorry.. I haven't used Lotus Organizer. I did find an article which may help.. I don't know.. Here it is

"Problem
When using Lotus EasySync for Organizer®, Organizer will only sync with Palm handheld units using HotSync version 4.1. Organizer does not sync to a Palm Tungsten T5, a Palm Tungsten E3, a Palm TX, or the Treo 650, using EasySync for Organizer.

Solution
Lotus Organizer only synchronizes with Palm handheld units using HotSync version 4.1.

The Palm Tungsten T5, Palm Tungsten E3, Palm TX, and the Treo 650 ship with a new version of HotSync version 6.01. This newer version of HotSync is not compatible with EasySync for Organizer. In addition, the Treo 700 series phone uses the Windows Mobile 5 operating system which is not supported.

NOTE: These handhelds cannot be synchronized with a version of HotSync Manager prior to 6.0, due to their new NVFS flash memory architecture. This is different from previous Palm PDAs which used conventional volatile RAM and HotSync Manager 4.0.

Some customers report success using Intellisync Handheld Edition from Other customers also report good results using Laplink's PDAMover at
NOTE: IBM cannot and does not recommend or endorse specific third-party hardware or software solutions.

Background:
EasySync for Organizer was designed to sync with Palm-powered PDAs using HotSync version 4.1. Anything else will not sync properly as the EasySync application cannot attach to the HotSync Manager and act as a redirector."

Here is the URL if that will help solve the problem for you.

Best regards

thank you again. I also found the same article last week. What I did was, installed an old version of HotSync from another Palm and I was able to sync with Lotus Organizer. There is still one small glitch though. For some reason the Palm conduit likes to take over things after extended period of time and what happens is that it changes everything to sync with palm software and Lotus organizer at the same time and I get a message saying that there is a conduit conflict. So what I have to do every time is go to Custom settings of HotSync and change to "do nothing" for Palm software and just leave "sync" for Lotus Organizer. It's a pain in the butt right now because it keeps doing it every morning. There is no easy way of completly removing palm conduit. I did find this program called Conduit Buddy which is supposed to let you remove any conduit but I haven't tried it yet.

Maggie

On version 4.1, when changing custom HotSync settings there is a check box to 'Set as default'. I'm not sure about other versions though.

OK, after everything was working fine for about a week, the user cannot sync any more. It tells me that the sync operation was interrupted. It happens when I try to sync the calendar.
The error code from the log I got is this"
Conduit Error: Invalid synchronization type (1012)

I uninstalled and reinstalled EasySync about 5 times then I did the same to the Lotus Organizer. I still have the same problem. I googled this Error and there is nothing about it. I am pretty much stuck. The only other things i can think of is removing the Palm Software from the computer also and reinstalling that as well, but I don't see a point if I am not using it.
Anyone got a clue what can be causing this?

Just a thought. Is there sufficient storage space on the Palm device?

I haven't checked but I seriously doubt it. I don't have the Pam in with me to check, but how do I check how much space is left on it?

Maggie

If you tap on the date on the main menu and select 'Info' you can see 'Free Space:'

Roger

thanks guys, I will check the free space when I get back to work tomorrow.
If that's not the case, do you think I could try this?
Take the Palm away from the user (I can never work on the damn thing in his office because he is always busy). Install Palm software on my computer. Try to sync with the Palm software first to make sure at least I have his data backed up somwhere and accessible. Then install Lotus Organizer and easysync on my computer and see if I can get it to work. If it works with Palm but not Lotus maybe I can just hard reset the Pilot and then copy data back to it and see if I can sync with Lotus after that.
What do to you think?
