I am using VFP 6.0. I need to convert a table to a XBASE table with CDX index that can be read by R & R Rport Writer (DOS version). The table has a memo field in it. I have tried this command: copy to customer.dbf type fox2x. Then I create the index. I am getting a read error in R & R Report Writer when I try to link another table to this new customer table to another. I think the issue may be the memo field, but I am not sure.

Thanks,

Gerry

Try copying it to foxplus instead.

fox2x will generate a .fpt memo file
foxplus will make a .dbt - which R&R should recognise

Good luck

Hi,

I tried copy to foxplus, but no luck.

Thanks,

Gerry

After that I don't know, I could open a foxplus using Clipper!

I suppose you could try including the fields statement?

Code:
copy to c:\temp\myTable fields except myMemo foxplus

Thanks for your responses!

The memo field is the most important part of the exercise. I may have to try incorporating a bunch of large character fields to do the job.

Do you need the WHOLE memo field?

Perhaps you could do a SQL statement to drag a few lines out of it?

Sorry folks,

I revisited Grif's suggestion about using copy to ...foxplus. On my second try it did, indeed work and I am now able to link to the table with the memmo field. Why it did not work the other day is beyond me, but, TODAY is a great day! Thanks for the suggestion Griff.

Thanks all,

Gerry
