Hi,

I have a word document that is currently set up as a mailmerge document, tied to an excel datatable. I'm using this mailmerge doc to copy and paste preformatted data into attachmate, for entry. Is there a macro wizard out there that can help me? I need the macro to copy the data in MS Word, and have it automatically switch to my AttachMate session, and paste the data followed by enter?

If there is any guidance you can provide, please let me know!
Thanks!

hi,

I am confused. How is the data you want to copy into Word, related to the data in Excel used in the mail merge?

Hey Skip!

Thanks for replying. Let me see if I can explain this... I'm processing sales tracking for a number of folks in our site. The sales tracking system exists within the AttachMate system. We need to enter roughly 2000 items into this system, one by one. To isolate them, we compile all of the data into an excel document, with particular columns dedicated to specific data types. The data in excel is fed into a word document that is set up to mirror the AttachMate system's fields. Using MailMerge, we extract the data from excel, into word, so that all of the individual data points are in the correct place. Then, in word, we select all, copy to clipboard, paste to attachmate, and hit enter to process the referral. We repeat this process for each individual entry, cycling through the mail merge records to get to each entry.

Does that make sense? We are trying to find a way to automate the copy/paste process. If we are able to do it using word, great. If we could use excel, even better.

Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks!
Matt

so there's no UPDATE screen in your system?

Usually a particular update screen accepts data in specific row/column locations, while other parts of the screen are not updatable.

BTW, Attachmate is not a system, but it is a screen (input/output) emulator for some other system, like IMS, VM, TSO etc.

Hey again Skip,

Thanks for all of your comments thus far. The AttachMate system is already configured for a TN3270 connection to our back end Sales Tracking System. The AttachMate connection is managed, and we cannot change anything about it. I do however have the ability to write macros for the session. You'll have to forgive me, I'm not a pro when it comes to AttachMate, so I'm not sure what you mean by update screen. There is a particular screen I navigate to, SNME, that has specific fields that are updatedable, while the rest of the screen is locked out. This is the screen we are pasting the word document details into, as they are set to automatically populate the correct fields upon pasting.

Does that help?

okay. Extra VB is rather clunky and I never use it. I most often use Excel VBA to manipulate the emulator. Excel or Word VBA has much more flexibility than Extra VB.

I'd suggest checking out the FAQ area, both in this forum and in forum99, which would be more appropriate if you are going to be running a macro.
